Behold, a staid classroom transformed into a locus of holiday cheer!
Here's Meltem next to the tree. All the presents are for the "Yankee Swap" we did (a weird ritual in which people open anonymously brought presents according to a random numbering system; anyone who opens a present they don't like can swap it for one that someone else has already opened). We felt bad that the presents we bought were just little cute things, whereas the haul under the tree had lots of big ol' boxes. But it turns out that people either were dumping stuff they had found in their attic, or had bought joke gifts – the runaway hit of the evening was a Santa doll with a long neck and a bottle in one hand, which bobbed its head drunkenly to the tune of "B-I-N-G-O" when you pushed a button.
Above, witness the dancing. I like how the gold bust of Atatürk is scowling down upon all this debauchery.
Finally, here's your happy MelbaBlog couple, wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

Happy New year to you too!
I would imagine as an acctual Yankee, in all 3 meanings of the word, you had almost a super-human advantage in the Yankee Swap Barry.
Meltum you look great! Stef looked like she was being beaten with rags soaked in hot vinegar at this stage. To her credit he did have diabetes, it was August in NYC, and she was working full time.
All the best in the new year.
